we built an art community starting with our 'ohana first
What is Kumu up to?
Ka Hale Hoaka classes, Online Workshops, Performances, Art Camps
Ka Hale Hoaka is a new online school based out of a remote off-the-grid home on the rural island of Molokai, Hawaii. This online school of Hawaiian learning is taught by Kumu Maile Naehu, the director of Molokainuiahina project, a Hawaiian cultural practitioner and educator. This learning environment is inspired by Hawaii, it’s stories, language and traditions. Ka Hale Hoaka’s classes offer an exploration in cultural beliefs, practices, and traditions, many of them universal understandings but rooted in Hawaiian perspectives. It is a class that is open to all ages, races, from all places around the world 🌎We learn together through language, song, storytelling, creativity and strengthening your voice and rich teachings of Hawai‘i nei. In this papa(class) I take traditional concepts and weave them together with ancient wisdoms and contemporary mediums.
OUR MISSION :
Ka Hale Hoaka ’s mission is to bring our classes right into the homes of 'ohana in order to connect Kanaka Maoli to the pillars of their identity that may otherwise be missing in their family life. We also aim to offer non- Kanaka students alike the enlightening knowledge shown through Hawaiian values, language, mo’olelo, oli and other cultural traditions in order to strengthen family practices and foster a sense of kuleana and aloha. We are planting indigenous seeds that will grow leaders firmly rooted in purpose thereby ending legacies of oppression and poverty.
